Shambhala Peace Day Trail Race
|
July - 20 SAKYONG QUOTES FOR RUNNER'S WORLD FOLLOWING THIS EVENT (FOR USE IN PUBLICIZING 2009 EVENT):
“Shambhala Mountain Centre is a place for peace. Having this peace run brought a lot of joy to me because peace is a living, active experience, which is really embodied in running.”
“Running is always such a personal thing, and to be able to run for something greater than oneself was wonderful.”

With a body made joyous through movement, the mind is able to relax. With mind/body balance, we can take the power of feeling good and generate compassion. -- Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche
As runners we connect to the earth and reach for sky. By challenging and extending ourselves we become more than who we thought we were. With a relaxed and vast mind we can then extend this sense of peace to the rest of the world.
Join us for this first of its kind race for peace finishing at the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya, an extraordinary expression of peace. The scenic 15 kilometer trail run will start and finish at Shambhala Mountain Center. The course will take us up into the adjoining Roosevelt National Forest through pristine open meadows and alongside mountain streams, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, renowned Tibetan lama and head of the Shambhala Buddhist lineage will be running the 15K with us. There will also be a 5 kilometer fun run which will take place entirely on Shambhala Mountain Center property. The 15K will start promptly at 9AM and the 5K will start at 9:05AM. It is strongly recommended that you arrive no later than 8:15AM.
All registrants will receive a race t-shirt, aid station support, post-race goodies, and an unusual surprise gift to all finishers. Bib numbers will be provided and the events will be professionally timed. Overall and age-group awards will be given in the 15K race. The entry fee for both events is $35 ($40 after July 1) and all proceeds will go to The Konchok Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to rebuild the Surmang Monastery in Tibet.
Register through www.active.com or at Fleet Feet in Boulder. Participation is limited to the first 250 registrants. Click here for driving directions to Shambhala Mountain Center. Overnight accommodations are not available at Shambhala Mountain for this event. For information on accommodation options in the area please contact us at (888)788-7221.
